Products carrying Priefert’s DualCoat label are constructed from galvanized, in most cases galvannealed, steel and then powder coated with an architectural grade powder coat finish to provide two layers of protection for your investment. DualCoat products are long-lasting, corrosion resistant, and require less maintenance than their traditional counterparts, making them ideal for use in the harshest environments. The extended lifespan of these products make them a valuable investment for customers who are looking for quality, durability, and longevity.
Layered defense that’s made to withstand the test of time. With the strength of galvannealed steel and a tough powder coat finish, DualCoat delivers unmatched resilience against rust, wear, and weather. This long-lasting, corrosion-resistant finish not only reduces the need for maintenance, but also offers a cost-effective solution for those who demand performance that lasts.
When powder coating is used over galvannealed steel, the duplex coating provides a sophisticated manner of corrosion protection which is superior to either protection system alone. This synergistic effect means the protection can last from 1.5 to 2.3 times the combined lifetimes of both systems.
Galvanization involves coating or annealing steel with zinc, which acts as a protective barrier against moisture and oxygen, preventing rust and corrosion, making this material especially suitable for outdoor applications or environments exposed to moisture and chemicals.
Thanks to the corrosion resistance and durability of our DualCoat products, they require minimal maintenance, saving time and money on upkeep and/or replacement products.
While the initial investment is generally higher than that required to purchase traditional black steel, long-term cost-effectiveness is a major advantage. The extended lifespan and low maintenance requirements translate into lower total cost over time.
Designed to battle the elements, DualCoat provides superior corrosion resistance and minimizes wear over time. By reducing maintenance and extending the life of your equipment, it delivers long-term value and reliability you can trust—season after season.
The process of galvanization has long been used to enhance the durability and corrosion resistance of steel products. Two of the most commonly used variations are galvanized steel and galvannealed steel.
Many people are familiar with the shiny spangled material that is traditional galvanized steel. This material has a zinc coating that is applied through a hot dip process, through continuous sheet galvanizing, or through electroplating. Each of these results in a layer of zinc being deposited onto the surface of the steel. The zinc then acts sacrificially to protect the steel.
Priefert utilizes galvannealed steel for the majority of its DualCoat products due to its superiority when it comes to weldability and paint adhesion. Similar to the process of continuous sheet galvanizing, the galvannealing process includes an additional heating step after the zinc coating is applied. During this step, annealing occurs, resulting in a zinc-iron alloy coating, essentially embedding the zinc into the steel. The resulting product has a matte finish that is ideal for painting and requires less preparation than traditional galvanized metal. Galvannealed steel is also more conducive to welding, as the zinc is layered into the steel, creating more reliable welds with less spatter and fewer toxic fumes. Additionally, the zinc-iron alloy has a higher melting point and electrical resistance than pure zinc, allowing for lower welding currents and better control during the welding process.
